The Wonderful Feeling When Your Husband Quits Amway

A reader shares her story!

Hurray.....Finally I could do it.I could get my husband get out of this Amway which is taking out most of our time and money.Thankyou Anna for the info and the stories.Your site made me work faster to get my husband out of amway.I could relate to most of the stuff that a wife of amway IBO experiences.

Here goes my story. We came to US about 5 years back and the first month we landed in US my husband is approched by some ex collegue whom he used to work with back in India. He had great respect for that guy so he signed up.We never questioned them for anything and strictly followed what hey suggested.

2 years in the biz we are at 300PV.Still we didnt have any complains and were going to all the associations and doing all the 9 core steps. The problem started when my husband lost job for few months. We couldnot attend the meetings, couldnot do the PV as directed by them. They started pressurizing us and we said we wanted to take a break as I was pregnant by that time and couldn't handle that pressure.

The stepped back for a while and once my husband got the job it all started again.By this time I lost belief and the trust on our upline.Since my husband still has hope in this biz I joined him. After all he is working so hard to provide a better life for our family.

2 years passed by and momentum kicked in and we are at 1500pv.We fairly got good money but we are not even at the breakeven point. We bought a new car at his point and my uplines are very upset about it and in the next meeting the topic is how we shouldnot buy any fancy stuff or new things and that we should believe in delayed gratification. That didnt bother us because buying a car is not a crime or waste of money. So we took it lite.

We started working much harder and by the time we build our second leg our first leg completely fade away.Again we are at 300pv.

I completely lost hope and didnt want to continue in it any longer. We worked so hard for 5 years and we are still at the 300pv.This didn't make sense to me at all.I started to get away from associations and then my upline lady comes into picture. She tried everything to get me back into associations but this time I'm firm on my decision. My husband never pressurizes me into things that I don't like to do.But he continued to go to the associations and work so hard and increased his activities.

He asked me to come to 1 last counselling session with our upline and he said that would be the last thing for me to do in the biz.Glad I went there. My uplines main focus was how man doesn't succeed because of their wifes.how people failed by listening to their wife and how somebody succeeded keeping their wife's advice aside in the biz.He started giving examples of people who left their wifes for the biz and the system because they believed it is right thing to do.My husband got upset for the way he is talking and started questionong him back. This is the first time he questioned him back.

Later I was completely away from biz and husband is attending meetings here and there but not on a regular basis. Then he called my husband alone for a counselling session and I don't know what he talked there. But I never saw my husband that much serious and upset about somebody. That night he said I will put my 200% in the biz for 3 months and if it doesn't work I will get out of it.

I can't tell you how hard he worked all the 3 months but with no results. Finally the day came and he stick to his word he is out of amway and we are having some peaceful time with family. We now have control over our time and money. The time we left our little boy with the babysitter will never come back but we atleast realised it sooner than many others who are in the biz for more than 10 years and are the same level.Thank you Anna for your blog which made me talk to my husband frequently with some genuine stories.

  1. I'm happy to hear that you and your husband got out of the scam. As you learned yourself, their whole excuse for people failing at Amway as being "they just didn't work hard enough" is total garbage. You saw for yourself how hard your husband worked, but the business "plan" is set up for failure, which is why they never get into actual numbers and statistics, and instead draw confusing unrealistic circles and talk about "dreams". As you found out, it's one thing to start a leg, it's another to KEEP it going, since everyone in that leg is LOSING money and most wise up and drop out.

Be proud of your husband for standing up for you... uplines love to destroy marriages and turn Ambots against any loved ones who might try to talk sense into them. They only care about picking the IBO's pocket for as long as they can. Your husband's love for you was stronger than their brainwashing and when they tried to poison his mind against you, it broke the spell.

What is past is past, so no need for regrets of money lost in a scam. The great thing is you are free and the future now is bright and dreams are really obtainable, unlike the phony "dreams" they weave in Amway. Good luck to you.

    1. When you question what to do if your downline leaves, one canned response is they already spent time to build up their business, why would they want to leave?"

  2. Lucky you're out of this scam. Migt consider changing your phone #. So the cult members won't harass u. I heard my ambot friend told me his diamond is looking for cash donations for Philippine's typhoon at the meetings. Asking for 100.00 from each of his down line. They'll do anything to scam people

    1. Anonymous - that's just sick cause you know just what's going to happen to any of those "donations" handed over to Amway scammers. People if you want to donate to a cause helping people from the tragedy in the Philippines go to a legitimate charity like the Red Cross where you will get a tax receipt for your donation. We have enough scammers around here accosting people in parking lots when they get out of their cars to donate to whatever the scammers charity of the week is and you know it's just going into their pockets and not to people who need the help. And every time a tragedy strikes where donations are desperately needed scammers like Amway assholes come out of the sewers to steal your money.

  3. Anna, they operate their major functions the same way.Where they have church service and pretend to care about some worthy cause. Im sure the amway leaders are licking their lips thinking of how the philipines disaster will be a major money maker. Most ambots dont ever questions or ask for tax receipts.

    1. Anonymous - I've been to some of those Amway church services where they pass a bucket for cash donations straight to the Amway cult leaders pocket. For a bunch of ambots always going on about how everything in Amway is a tax deduction they're sure stupid about what might be legitimate tax deductions and getting tax receipts from legitimate charities instead of tithing their Amway cult leaders. All kinds of scammers take advantage whenever a disaster hits a part of the world.

    2. im really shocked that they stoop that low.

I help my mom out with her volunteer organization a lot and we do the volunteering at shelters and handle moneys donated.

    3. Rbot - you shouldn't be shocked at anything those greedy Amway scammers do. It is shocking that anyone takes advantage of others who think they might be donating to a worthy cause but there are other scammers out there doing this besides ambots.

  4. I'm shocked that they let you be present as they used the "wife tirade" on your husband. You didn't need to speak out then, but you could've. OTOH, they later on did get him alone to try to pull him back in.

I'm impressed that you made it to 1500 PV, and maintained 300 PV for a while. Hopefully, the 300 PV wasn't from your own sales though. Either way, I myself did run the numbers in various ways, and the work needed to achieve such piddly figures was never worth it. Other stories confirmed my suspicions. I mentioned this on other posts here on this blog, but the meetings were a huge turn off for me. We're talking you'd genuinely consider gnawing off your own foot, or kicking a puppy if it meant not having to go to those time wasters.

    1. I remember when I first started they were a bit more patient with me in making the meetings. I assume they didn't want to scare me off right away, but they were understanding when I had something else taking place. But as I got more involved and began interacting with more of the leaders, they basically said that I need to make every meeting and there's no excuse for showing up, regardless if it's work or family related.

It's funny how they would always lecture us about how we use our time and how we need to use our time to be productive. Not that I disagree with that, but the irony is that spending 2+ hours a couple nights a week at an Amway meeting is a complete waste of time. Especially when there were meeting every Friday night.

Wow, a time that most people enjoy spending at home with their families, resting and recovering after a long week of work or school, or actually going out and doing something fun, turned into an Amway witching hour. The cult leaders would always call us winners for hanging out with them and getting brainwashed on a Friday night instead of spending a Friday night like a normal person, and they would ridicule those who weren't being "productive" like we were. Anna, I think this should be the topic of a new post, if you haven't said anything similar already.

    2. Hi Anonymous. Yeah I remember the old attend all meetings bullshit like I didn't have anything better to do with my time than go to an Amway cult meeting. And if you don't show up the assholes in your upline phone and bitch you out and the cult leader mocks the missing person to the people who did show up. And yes the old everyone in the room is a winner just by showing up. I think there is a post about that somewhere in this blog. Maybe it's time for a rerun.

    3. Well I don't recall them directly calling out people who were absent or who quit, but they did make many indirect references to people being absent and quitting. I can only imagine what goes on behind the scenes when all the platinums and above are together, and they don't have any newer downlines around that they have to worry about scaring away.

I think you should make a list of things more productive than Amway. Ill start.

      -Updating your resume
-Read books about running a real business
      -Go to a career fair
      -Work
      -Exercise
      -Spend time with family
-Read the Bible (I prefer to get my theology straight from the Bible, not those twisted Amway church services)

  5. I have a friend who got into this; she’s fixated on the Artistry products. What she does is she’ll ask you if you want a free facial, she’ll also do a manicure and pedicure for free. Once you arrive you’ll be treated to Amway snacks and Perfect water, along with XS energy drinks too. If it’s more than one person getting the free facial/manicure/and pedicure she’ll have some of her downline and upline assist her. Most of the people attending these beauty sessions are given free Amway catalogs, pamphlets…you know, Amway propaganda. They are also encouraged to try the XS energy drinks, food-replacement bars, and or anything else that my friend and her Amway girls have on display for free.
During the royal treatment these people are sweetly interrogated about their personal lives, their families, friends, and how is their job going for them. It’s all disguised as girl-talk so that no one will get suspicious! After the ‘spa’ session, my friend and her Amway girls promote the Artistry products and sway the attendees to purchase the incredible Artistry products. From what I’ve heard from people that know her, she introduces Artistry as a sole company, assuring the customers Amway is just a distributor. She hooks her targets with product-purchases first and then lures them in for the kill. She convinces these people you can sell whatever you want, and every item has its own company, with Amway as their main distributor. Once they’re hooked on one or more products, and they’re loyal customers she uses the personal information she got from them against them and tries to test the waters. From what I’ve seen and heard this doesn’t always goes the way she expects, as some of these people simply walk away from her customer base all together, however, unfortunately others get lassoed in and roped into the system like flies caught on a spider web. I told my family members that if any woman of man comes to you with free-anything (specially facials/manicures/pedicures), walk the other way.

    1. Hi SalleMae. What you've described happens a lot in Amway circles. The ambots want to sell their makeup and other products so they'll have some event at their house that's maybe more focused for women, as you said some kind of free makeover treatment. Or it could be coffee or watch a movie. Girl talk kind of stuff. And yes there'll be a shitload of Amway products on the table and anywhere else they can put them. Usually have to call on ambots who can supply products or the empty packaging they came in.

The old Amway is just a distributor line has been used a long time. If people started getting suspicious it was Amway we had to deny it and say no we're WWDB but we do use Amway to ship our products. It's all part of the deception

  7. Good job not supporting your husband. He should have left you for not supporting him. Amway, done properly, will give you the freedom everyone should have; no job, family time, vacations (all expense paid), and so on. I guess you were just part of a terrible team, or you have no idea how to be part of team. You would rather work 40-80hours a week to barely be making by than spend 5 years using 10 hours a week to become financially free. Your loss.

    1. Another fucking Amway asshole showing up here to prove the men in Amway are a bunch of fucking male chauvinist pigs. It's all about the wife supporting the husband. One thing you'll never see in the Amway male chauvinist pig club is the husband supporting the wife and getting out of fucking Scamway. Men who arent fucking Amway male chauvinist pigs know its a 2 way street when it comes to supporting each other. So take your fucking Amway male chauvinist pig values and shove them up your ass!

  10. To Brandon Zollman:

Were you born stupid, or did you take a graduate degree in stupidity?

If you think Amway will give you financial freedom, you must be brain-dead! Amway's own literature says that close to 99% of IBOs DO NOT MAKE MONEY IN THE BUSINESS! Are they lying, Brandon? Or are you just too lazy to read the Amway literature?

Amway in North America is collapsing. It's becoming close to impossible to recruit new IBOs into the "Plan." People are wising up to the fact that Amway, like all MLMs, is a rip-off.

By the way, Brandon: how much money have you lost so far in Amway?

Then he signed up with Amway and got a degree in being an obnoxious male chauvinist pig who stalks the Internet with his snotty sobby Amway attitude spouting off canned Amspeak bullshit. LOSER! He hasn't lost enough money in Amway as far as I'm concerned.

Comments are moderated but we publish just about everything. Even brainwashed ambots who show up here to accuse us of not trying hard enough and that we are lazy, quitters, negative, unchristian dreamstealers. Like we haven’t heard that Amspeak abuse from the assholes in our upline!

If your comment didn’t get published it could be one of these reasons:
1. Is it the weekend? We don’t moderate comments on weekends. Maybe not every day during the week either. Patience.
2. Racist/bigoted comments? Take that shit somewhere else.
3. Naming names? Public figures like politicians and actors and people known in Amway are probably OK – the owners, Diamonds with CDs or who speak at functions, people in Amway’s publicity department who write press releases and blogs. Its humiliating for people to admit their association with Amway so respect their privacy if they’re not out there telling everyone about the love of their life.
4. Gossip that serves no purpose. There are other places to dish about what Diamonds are having affairs or guessing why they’re getting divorced. If you absolutely must share that here – don’t name names. I get too many nosy ambots searching for this. Lets not help them find this shit.
5. Posting something creepy anonymously and we can’t track your location because you’re on a mobile device or using hide my ass or some other proxy. I attracted an obsessed fan and one of my blog administrators attracted a cyberstalker. Lets keep it safe for everyone. Anonymous is OK. Creepy anonymous and hiding – go fuck yourselves!
6. Posting something that serves no purpose other than to cause fighting.
7. Posting bullshit Amway propaganda. We might publish that comment to make fun of you. Otherwise take your agenda somewhere else. Not interested.
8. Notice how this blog is written in English? That's our language so keep your comments in English too. If you leave a comment written in another language then we either have to use Google translate to put it into English so everyone can understand what you wrote or we can hit the Delete button. Guess which one is easier for us to do?
9. We suspect you're a troublemaking Amway asshole.
10. Your comment got caught in the spam filter. Gets checked occasionally. We’ll get to you eventually and approve it as long as it really isn’t spam.
