A few years ago we had a help wanted ad up on Craigslist where people can email a resume and in the ad we name our company and also say don’t drop in or phone. It’s really important to know if people are capable of following instructions! Instructions only get harder! It’d been a busy time and a little short staffed so I’d been in to the shop more than normal.
As I was walking up to the door after lunch this man was leaving. I didn’t think anything of it but one of the staff said he dropped off a resume and handed it to me. I glanced at it and put it aside to give to Ambot later. The only thing that really stood out for me was this guy was using the type of resume people would use 20 or 30 years ago.
Couldn’t find a contemporary resume template online? Hmmmm…
Oh well, its not a techy position.
A couple of hours later I’m alone up front at the counter doing computer work and this guy walks back in again. Recognized him. He asked for Ambot.
“Do you have an appointment?” I asked. Knowing damned well Ambot is out schmoozing with a vendor. I don’t know when he’ll be back.
No says the man but he talked with him on the phone last Friday about the opening. And he dropped off his resume a couple of hours earlier and the staff had said the owner would be back in a couple of hours.
And then he did this arrogant prick routine. He’s bragging about what a great worker he is and how any company would want to snap him up but because he talked to Ambot a few days earlier he wants to give us first shot to hire him before he starts applying everywhere else.
I’m just smiling sweetly at him and said don’t put all your eggs in one basket. You should keep on applying to other places. Hint hint hint loser!
And then he continued on with the arrogant prick routine about what a great guy he is blah blah blah and how the owner will be really missing out if he doesn’t call him and hire him. Get him before its too late.
I almost asked if he’s in Amway. The obnoxious arrogant prick routine is an Amway Ambot trademark.
Also the same pitch that Amway losers use when they say sign up now before it’s too late because the business is about to explode and you don’t want to miss out.
If he’s a broke Amway loser I can see why he needs a J.O.B. If he’s not an Ambot he’s got the right snotty snobby attitude to be one.
When he left he said well the owner better call me asap if he wants a chance to hire me because the next company I apply to is going to hire me for sure because I’m so much in demand. Then he left.
I’m thinking hey you obnoxious asshole it doesn’t occur to you that a woman could be a business owner? That’s the Amway Ambot attitude! Amway is a good old boy’s club full of male chauvinist pigs.
And by the way - you just had your interview with the owner! LOL!
Don’t call us we’ll call you.
And recommend you apply to our competition!
The guy's attitude was the very worst one you could have when seeking a job. The basic rule is this: "Let your resume speak about your skills and competence -- not your mouth!" During the interview you should present yourself as restrained, dignified, dependable, and sensible. You should answer questions clearly and intelligently, not make speeches about how great you are.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes -- FOLLOW DIRECTIONS! If they tell you not to show up or call, then don't do those things.
The guy sounds as if he were desperate.
Anonymous - well the first thing is this guy doesn't follow instructions too good. A sack of shit Platinum could whip him into shape on that one pretty damn quick. LOL! Second why would a potential employee waste their time bragging about how superior they are to a staff member who may or may not be in a position to hire someone. Clearly this guy dismissed me as the cashier and not an owner. It's like going into a gas station and bitching about the price of gas to the cashier who has no control over the oil companies and what the price tag on the pump is. He could say I'm having tech issues and I want to apply here so just dropping off my resume. And leave. A broke Amway loser wouldn't be able to pay their Internet bill and email their resume. Just stuff to think about.
