The last time we posted about the Amway Bible -Slight Edge – a cult follower’s kid stopped by to share a story:
Hilariously I was raised in a cult. I never even noticed until I left and
weird shit happened and everyone in the real world thought I was nuts. I had to
relearn so much about the world because of the brainwashing...
Anyway one day when I was in 3rd grade one of our teachers told us that penny
story. She asked us all to ask our parents for a penny that night and then two
the next etc.
I tried to ask my mother for a penny.
Ever dared asked your upline for a single cent?
Oh YEAH she had to know EXACTLY what I had planned for it, what I needed it
for, who convinced me I needed this penny.... Like she dang ass GRILLED ME. I
ended up crying. Which made me a sensitive pathetic child of course. I was told
to go to my room until I could be more positive!!!!
Lol so if you ever wondered if cults and Amway were identical... They not only
tell the same stories you fucking know you can't ask Upline for a single penny.
Everyone one of us has regrets. I regret the times when I was rude or inconsiderate towards my parents. I was young and foolish and didn’t understand what they were saying or why. I also regret being rude and inconsiderate towards my own children when they needed something from me and I was too wrapped up in my own world and just wanted to rush through a bed time story. To be a human is to regret these missteps. No one gets through life without at least a few of these. Did I do somethings right with my parents and children. I hope so.
ReplyDeleteThen there is this kind of story. Ask your mum for a penny and she denies it to you. Not because a penny has any intrinsic value. Not because she is trying to teach you mathematics but just because that is the time and tested way of the cult. What kind of relationship do these people have years later I wonder. Are they still on speaking terms? Does the parent dare to hope for love and caring from the child as the parent grows infirm in old age? Does anyone win in this situation?
Imagine instead if you gave your child the penny and the next day two pennies and so on until the day not far in to the experiment when the amount of pennies is worth more than the family is worth. What a lesson that would be. The child for life would learn what exponential growth is and would never in adulthood fall for the MLM cultish rubbish. Imagine the mum innocently running the experiment and then on day 12 or whatever discovering that the whole MLM con she has believed in is exactly that - a con.
Instead they all stay blissfully ignorant of maths and logic and go to their MLM parties and conferences and hand over money they don’t have to people they don’t like. They come home and treat their children like some kind of trash not realising that that child’s love is so precious and so easily lost if you keep taking it for granted.
Aussie Hillbilly - I don't know if anyone currently in the Amway cult has regrets about anything! Maybe once they quit they regret all the money and time the wasted.
DeleteThe other thing to keep in mind are that Ambots are broke. There likely was no penny to give the kid. I mean this is so shitty. It's not like the kid is asking for a Playstation.
Maybe mom could have said vacuum the living room floor and I will give you a penny when you're done. But grilling a kid why they need a penny. I mean long gone are the days when you could go to the corner store and buy penny candy!
As you pointed out there are better ways to teach your kid the value of a penny or the value of a dollar and steer them away from getting involved with a scam MLM racket.
