Thanks to one of our readers for this observation:
When the assholes in Amway
scream “Get educated” what they really mean is “Become brainwashed by Amway
propaganda.” For them, education means listening to some fat-assed Emerald or
Platinum spout bullshit for hours about how Amway is the only financial
salvation available.
There are other phrases that the Amway freaks use in a special sense. When they
say “Do your research!” they really mean “Listen to Amway CDs and tapes, and
read rah-rah books by Kiyosaki and other MLM flacks.”
When they say “Buy from your own store!” they really mean “Be a member of an
expensive buying club that forces you to use only Amway products.”
When they say “Pro-sume -- don’t consume!” no one knows what the hell they
really mean. It’s just absurd verbal nonsense.
When they say “Amway is about leadership and helping others” they really mean “Amway
fucks you over so bad that you’ll wind up in the poorhouse.”
Cults are like that. They twist and misuse language to confuse people and trick
them.
Amway is certainly a cult. DeVos and Van Andel were two Dutch Calvinist nut jobs.
ReplyDeleteYup - cult leaders and scammers perched on top of the Amway pyramid.
DeleteI've never seen Kiyosaki promote MLMs, his books actually promote real business ownership from what I've seen. Yes, his "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" fits into a whole book what could be a couple of paragraphs and it is likely the rich dad never really existed, but some of his other books have pretty decent advice IMO.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous - that's possible. Most financial experts say pretty much the same thing: Pay off your debt. Incur no more debt. Make more money. Save more money.
DeleteThey just have different paths on how to achieve these things. I've read some books for making more money that MLM does come up as a suggestion. With the warning to vet the company and see if you'll lose more money than make.
As with all advice from any financial guru you do what works for you and that might mean using advice from several experts.
Whether or not Kiyosaki promotes MLMs he is definitely making money from selling his books to them and possibly as a paid spokesperson. Though I imagine the bulk of his income comes from selling tickets to real estate seminars and not from speaking at MLM gatherings.
