Double X Double Knock Out

Seeing as how there has been a little talk about Double X recently I thought I’d recount a not so fond memory of taking this vitamin.

This was over 10 years ago the first time we were in Amway/WWDB. Our upline Platinum shrew was flogging buying the Amway vitamins like you wouldn’t believe to get the old PV up there so she could meet her goal. Ambot bought Double X and we were both taking them. I am not a morning person. I’m usually groggy and might forget what I’m doing. Takes me hours to get my act together. So I might not always remember to do things in the morning or forget if I’ve already done it or not. I think I’d been pretty good each morning at taking the Double X. I’d usually grab my 2 pills and go to the office and check my emails or do anything else I needed to do on the computer before going to work.

One morning I was on the computer and saw the 2 pills sitting beside the keyboard. Oops. Forgot to take them. I pop them in and leave for work.

The company I worked for was about a 20 minute drive from my house. Maybe 25 minutes if I hit all the red lights! I’m about halfway to work and I start to feel lightheaded. Its a cold morning but I roll down the windows anyway hoping that will help. I arrive at work and park in the lot about 200 feet from the front door of the building. I open the door and get out but I’m so dizzy I have to sit down again. Obviously something is not right here. I’d been feeling fine before taking the Double X but I didn’t make the connection at that point.

I slowly walk inside but I’m really unsteady and feeling ill. Fortunately I worked on the ground level. I shared an office with another woman whose shift started 30 minutes before mine. She is already there and talking to another co-worker. I sit at my desk but don’t say anything to them. Or maybe I said hi but didn’t join in the conversation because I’m feeling queasier by the second. By now I think I’m going to puke so I get up and go to the washroom.

This company had an exercise room on the ground floor. The washrooms here also had a shower. I go inside hoping it will be deserted. No such luck. A co-worker who I don’t know very well because she works on another floor had been working out prior to starting her day and is putting on her make up. I told her I didn’t want to gross her out but I was pretty sure I was going to throw up. I then sat down on the bench in the shower area and waited. Nothing happened. I got up and walked across the hall into the lunch room where there is a couch and laid down on it. Eventually the lady in the washroom comes over and asks if I’m OK. I said I didn’t know what was wrong but I felt nauseous.

After she left I ran back to the bathroom and was sick. I returned to the lunchroom and laid down on the couch. A couple of other co-workers came in for coffee and were concerned. I suppose when they went back to their desks they let the lady who I shared an office with know because a few minutes later the phone in the lunch room rang. I answered and sure enough it was my friend quite concerned and wanting to know if she could get me a ginger ale or anything. I said no but didn’t feel well enough to stay at work and didn’t think I could drive either so I was going to phone Ambot to pick me up. She phoned our supervisor to let her know I was ill and going home.

When Ambot arrived I was sick again. It was horrible. He drove me home and then he left for work a couple of hours later. I didn’t throw up again but I was in extreme stomach agony all day long and stayed in bed too weak to get up. When Ambot got home later that night he was on the computer and then I heard him call out and ask if I’d seen his painkillers he’d left beside the computer. He’d had a work related back injury and was taking the meds.

All of a sudden it clicks that I must have taken his medication and those weren’t Double X that I’d put down by the computer. Two of those meds were the max a guy his size could have taken. For a petite like me they were knock outs. I was pretty angry with him for leaving his meds out like that. Obviously I’d mistaken them for my Double X. Worse - what would have happened if the dog had eaten them.

There’s some medications you can’t take with vitamins because of adverse reactions. That might have been a combination of what knocked me out so hard and fast. Double X and painkillers.

I spent a day in agony because of the Double X mix up. I never took them again.

  1. Anna, glad you're ok now and there's no serious damage. Mine situation with double x wasnt as bad. Im from hong kong and most people take herbs & vitamins over there. First time I ever took double X ...i kept on burping alfalfa and my stomach couldnt diguest it. Actually, despite what Tex has to say....i have a easier time digesting centrum lol. I think it was greg duncan who made a big speach about how bad centrum is. I asked for a refund for the double x but was told you cant refund anything in the amway kit. Same with with the SA8 cause i didnt like the smell and thought it was a mediocre product.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Colin - we had that problem too when we tried to get refund on the vitamins that Ambot overstocked and they refused to refund. So much for that much touted lie about the 180 day refund policy! SA8 didn't get our clothes any cleaner than any other brand. Its such a relief to use a reasonably priced laundry soap that does a good job getting my clothes clean.

  3. I thought it was depressing cause my kit consist of a few cassette tapes,SA8, and the double X. The total cost was over 150.00. Was told this is a business expense and not to overreact. But i felt ripped off getting so little. Those tapes couldnt cost most than 1.00 each to produce, detergent ...maybe 10.00,and double X i thought was 7.00. The only diff in todays kit might be the energy drinks added and dvds instead of cassettes.

  4. Spot on about Double X. I had major issues taking double X. I used to throw up every time i took it. Was embarrassed when throwing up at work and others asking me if I was expecting. My upline lady indirectly mentioned this incident in one of her talks that, "You know some of you have so much junk in your body that you have to clean all that up so that it can adapt to pure things like Double X. " (Basically she was telling me that Nutrilite was great and the fault was mine).

Being the true IBOs we were, we contacted nutrilite about this and they did send out a detailed questionnaire and told us to take the three pills while having food. My situation improved a lot after that. But still on many occasions, I used to have bloated stomach and such uneasiness after taking double X and only after a few burps I would feel better.

My husband did have bloating issues after taking double X, but did not suffer as badly as I did.

My upline also had similar bloating issues with double X, but would never pass negatives to downline. He used to drown a can of xs after taking double x to help with his bloating issues.

Bottom line: Double X way way way overrated and very very very expensive product.

  5. Colin - I don't recall exactly what was in our kit but I remember some of that nasty piss drink XS was in there and some Nutrilite stuff. I think some sample pack of SA8 too. It was around $150 for signing up for Amway and the starter kit with the Amway samples.

  6. ExEagle - ah yes now I remember the questions from work and family about whether it was morning sickness and if I was pregnant. Just one of those joyful benefits of being in Amway!

  7. exEagle, im sure people complain about doublex. But nobody ever listens at ada or care. Proves in mlm you really dont need a good product. People are driven by $.

  8. Yes, Greg went on for years dissing Centrum and every other vitamin except amway. We took a ton of those vitamins (we are now down to only XX from amway - hubby won't give them up).

I ate mountains of amway vitamins for 15 years, and suddenly, I seriously can't even stand the smell of them, especially XX. I rarely take it anymore. Don't know why, but I get extremely nauseated on the XX.

Why would that happen after 15 years?

I now take Co-Q10 from Puritan's Pride and a few from the health food store down the block. My mega-vitamin taking days are over. Simply too expensive. I am taking C in a poweder form. So much easier, not to mention, cheaper.

Would imagine Nutrilite sales are way down???

  9. Its never really occurred to me to buy vitamins. I prefer to eat fresh fruits and vegetables to give me what I need. I wouldn't rule it out having to take vitamins if I had to for my health but I sure wouldn't be looking at expensive ones from Amway. I'd probably consider Centrum though.

  10. Anna, when i started with amway. Some of my friends where working at a health food store. My ex upline tried their little bit about buying for yourself and saying quality at our store wasnt that good. Often my buddies would get protein bars/shakes for free.

Ha ha can't beat a free deal most especially if you are amway! ;)

  12. I am cracking up about that this post has absolutely nothing to do about taking double x. Your seriously putting a bad post about a vitamin simple because you were stupid enough to take someones pain killers. You couldn't have gotten sick because of that, it had to be due to adverse effects from double x, not the pain killers.

  13. It has everything to do with taking Double X a useless piece of shit vitamin. If I didn't have the fucking Double X in the house in the first place this never would have happened. The meds looked exactly the same as the Double X. It was a combo of the 2 taken together that knocked me out. Another night owl meeting? The rest of us were sleeping while you were being brainwashed.

  14. A drive-by. What fun!!

We had people in our downline for years telling us how sick they got every time they took XX. Explain THAT, oh wise newbie ambot.

We used to tell them it must be in their heads; to which they replied, no, actually, it's in our stomachs. We counseled upline who told us it was b/c XX was so full of nutrition their bodies could not handle it. Uh, yeah. O.K.

We had no come back for our downline. If that was their experience, who are we to say they were lying?

I cannot take XX any more. I take other vitamins with no adverse reaction.

Multi-level marketing companies, by their very nature, sell extremely expensive products almost exclusively to their cult members. That can be proven by the fact that very few people continue to buy the ~wonder product~ after they quit the cult. What, did said ~wonder product~ become toxic b/c the cult member quit, or did the now-excult member realize what a poor value it was?

Drive-bys are delicious. Please come visit us again soon. We'll leave the light on for ya.'

  16. I just baught this designer vitamin from a store like GNC in canada. Two before expiration the regular price was 19.99 and cause it's expiring in two months it's on sale for 5.00. Had to comment cause I thought of your double X thread while buying it

    ReplyDelete
  17. Amway sent us a case of expired drinks I think protein shakes and refused to refund them. They didn't want them back because they'd expired!? Uh whose fault is it that you shipped us something that expired last week. That went in the trash. Like I need any further proof that Amway is out to rip us off. They go around bragging about 180 day refund policy but when you try to get a refund you get a big runaround.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Anna, Only in mlm do they abuse their customers like this. Normal businesses would throw the product in the trash or give people a major discount a month or two before expiry date.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Colin - you're right. Normal businesses that don't go around ripping off their customers have responsible refund policies and offer discounts when products are nearing their expiration date.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Anna, the other reason i like buying from wall mart/kmart or other local stores. Is that you can physically go there and complain to customer service or management of the store. The situation you had with the protein shakes would never happen with wall mart

    ReplyDelete
  21. Colin - it never would have happened at a real store because I am always checking the expiry dates before I pick up anything. I never would have bought something that had expired. I wouldn't have even bought it on the day of expiry. If it was a key lime pie expiring in a day or 2 I might have bought it because I know I can eat that before it expires. That's the difference with buying a product that you can see and something sight unseen. You take your chances on buying something online everytime. Maybe the seller will ship it, maybe not. Maybe the product will be as described, maybe it'll be a piece of shit. Maybe the seller will refund a bad product, maybe not. Amway is a bad seller.

  22. Anna, at the very least we're not supporting this scam anymore. Hate reading blogs or forum post of ex distributors who continue to buy their shitty products

  23. Colin - some former IBO's take longer for the brainwashing deprogramming to kick in. There was someone who posted a comment that he was so brainwashed about Glister toothpaste that when he quit Amway he was scared to use anything else for fear his teeth would fall out. He switched to Crest or Colgate and has had no problems with dental issues.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anna- I've also talked to some ex ibos who think we get cancer from drinking regular filter water or bottle water. I never knew the about how brainwashed people where reguarding glister toothpaste. Had a friend from another mlm tell me any products like shampoo, soap, toothpaste ....has sulphates in them which causes cancer(but her mlm company contains no sulphates haha)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Colin - those are traits of a good scam artist. You have to be a good liar to succeed in Amway and you have to be a good cult leader and have the ability to brainwash others. That is why so few people actually get anywhere in Amway. Those are not traits that most people possess.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I just left Amway because I couldn't master the art of Bullshitting as well as the rest of them could... but to stick to the Double X topic, here is my experience.
I was promised to start feeling wonderful and have lots of energy once I started to take the XX vitamins. Instead the first thing I noticed was a confusing wave of mood swings, particularly depression. Normally I would enjoy exercising but on XX I'd be out running when I would spontaneously burst into tears. Embarrassingly this would also happen in class and then I'd get teachers and classmates thinking that I was too stressed and couldn't handle my study load. I just couldn't understand the change (especially when I had absolutely no reason for crying) but when I mentioned it to other Amway members, they'd say I must be having other issues because nothing like that has ever been reported as a side-effect of XX.
I then stopped taking the vitamins as a test and almost straight away I felt a lot better and definitely less depressed, and within days I was back to my normal self. Again, the Amway people said it was all a mental thing - that I willed myself not to feel the positive effects of XX. It pissed me off and I want to find others who may have had a similar reaction from XX just for my own confirmation that I was not the only one who felt weird from XX vitamins.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Liz, I'm glad to hear you're feeling better since you stopped taking the Double X!

Sometimes vitamins work adversely in conjunction with other vitamins or other medications or maybe even body chemistry. The people who've mentioned issues with Double X have been short term that went away when they stopped taking it. That does not sound like a happy time for you. Of course your upline can't explain it. These are fine, high quality products. How could they explain why people are having bad side effects.

You have to be a good liar to do well in Amway. Have no morals, no ethics, don't care about other people, don't care about destroying other people's finances, don't care about destroying relationships.....

Very few people can pull it off. Those with a conscience who care about others do not do well in Amway.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I see often how Amdroids always bring up how "wonderful, helpful and caring" all their new Amway friends are (which ends up being all they have as they jettison their old friends and family who are too "negative" i.e. try to talk facts, logic and numbers with them), and it is funny because all those "Christian" Amway upline people with the crocodile smiles and vacant eyes who swear friendship and loyalty to them are, by the very nature of the Amway business, liars and tricksters and self-centered money-obsessed shallow beings who are only your "friend" because you represent dollars to them, and if you ever have to quit due to... I don't know, maybe RUNNING OUT OF CREDIT CARDS TO MAX OUT.. then those smiling, loving Christian "best friends forever" won't give you the time of the day anymore.
I suppose if one drinks the Kool-Aid and rationalizes that they aren't really lying, deceptive, dishonest and disingenuous people themselves (the ONLY way one has to be to get other suckers to sign up), then it's harder to notice your fellow Ambots for being phony liars, too. A thief in a room of thieves doesn't see everyone else as being thieves, just kindred souls.

  29. Dave - I did not drink the Kool Aid so I observed everything very clearly and very angrily. I do not like IBO's I do not like liars. They were only our friends as long as my Ambot bought Amway products and tools. They've all long gone bye bye now! Our upline said even if we didn't make money we'd be nicer people. Hunh? Who gets into business if not to make money? Besides Amway IBO's that is! Maybe I'm about as nice right now as I'll ever be. I don't need to be no nicer. At least no nicer to IBO's!

  30. So you stopped taking double x because you had a mix up with the pills. Interesting. Well this doesn't prove double X are bad to consume. Just proves that you were absent minded.
Certainly these aren't grounds for you to stop taking double x.

    ReplyDelete

    1. You don't get the point you brainwashed Ambot. Regardless of whether or not I was absent minded Amway vitamins can have disastrous side effects to people taking other medications.

And yes that's one very good reason to stop taking Double X. Other reasons are its too fucking expensive. An Amway employee told me they but it at cost when they work at the head office - $10. Amway selles it to IBOs for $65 or $70. Talk about a fucking rip off! Double X is not as good as many other lower priced vitamin products on the marketplace. If you want to be brainwashed and get ripped off go right ahead. Don't come back here crying about all the money you lost in the Amway scam.

  31. I'm not an Amway Distriibutor and I don't agree with their "business model" and I don't take Double X.

As a medical doctor, I believe in a sensible vitamin regime. The benefits of supplementation are well recognised. I have lost count of the number of times a patient has entered my consulting room looking far less than their stated age. Most of these people exercise regularly and take mulitvitamin and antioxidant supplements and few show signs of atheriosclerosis and hypertension, major known causes of stroke and heart disease.

This situation you found yourself in does not in itself prove that Double X interferes with other medications. Vitamin supplements have a much lower potency than prescription medicines and are unlikely to act in concert to produce the side effects you suffered. The only known side effects of vitamin overdose seem to be slight nausea which passes in reasonable time.

It seems to me that your husband and you are responsible for you inadvertently taking the wrong pills. Your husband should not have left them out and you should not have taken pills that you did not know for certain what they were. The side-effects you suffered are almost certainly a result of taking an overdose of pain medication.

I don't like Amway but you can't blame them in this instance. I suggest you take more care and accept the responsibility of your actions.

    1. Anonymous - it also does not prove that taking Amway vitamins does not interfere with other medications. This post throws it out there that the possibility exists. Could depend on all kinds of internal factors. As a medical doctor you probably know there are a lot of ifs when making a diagnosis.

In my case if we hadn't been scammed into signing up with Amway and if we hadn't been bullied into taking Double X this never would have happened. Whether it happened as a result of the combo or the pain medication only, that's another if.

So yes I can blame Amway in this instance. Or at least the assholes in our Amway upline who bitched at us until we shelled out the money to buy Double X.

Seeing as how we're no longer involved in Amway and have long since thrown out all their shitty products there has been no further incidents.

Comments are moderated but we publish just about everything. Even brainwashed ambots who show up here to accuse us of not trying hard enough and that we are lazy, quitters, negative, unchristian dreamstealers. Like we haven’t heard that Amspeak abuse from the assholes in our upline!

If your comment didn’t get published it could be one of these reasons:
1. Is it the weekend? We don’t moderate comments on weekends. Maybe not every day during the week either. Patience.
2. Racist/bigoted comments? Take that shit somewhere else.
3. Naming names? Public figures like politicians and actors and people known in Amway are probably OK – the owners, Diamonds with CDs or who speak at functions, people in Amway’s publicity department who write press releases and blogs. Its humiliating for people to admit their association with Amway so respect their privacy if they’re not out there telling everyone about the love of their life.
4. Gossip that serves no purpose. There are other places to dish about what Diamonds are having affairs or guessing why they’re getting divorced. If you absolutely must share that here – don’t name names. I get too many nosy ambots searching for this. Lets not help them find this shit.
5. Posting something creepy anonymously and we can’t track your location because you’re on a mobile device or using hide my ass or some other proxy. I attracted an obsessed fan and one of my blog administrators attracted a cyberstalker. Lets keep it safe for everyone. Anonymous is OK. Creepy anonymous and hiding – go fuck yourselves!
6. Posting something that serves no purpose other than to cause fighting.
7. Posting bullshit Amway propaganda. We might publish that comment to make fun of you. Otherwise take your agenda somewhere else. Not interested.

If you leave a comment written in another language then we either have to use Google translate to put it into English so everyone can understand what you wrote or we can hit the Delete button. Guess which one is easier for us to do?
