This is my story. This is your story. This is everyone's story that ever got involved in ScAmway and witnessed the brainwashing and manipulation. Nothing every changes. This could have happened yesterday, 10 years ago, 20 years ago or even longer than that. Thanks to one of our readers for sharing their story on why Amway is a disgusting cult:
Amazing blog you have here! Lol it cracks me up.
I have my own little Amway story for you from when I was in the cult: I was in Amway last year dragged in by a co-worker with the idea of making millions and retiring within 2-5.
I soon realized Amway truly is a cult.
My upline would encourage us to cut out our own family and friends if they talked against Amway. They called themselves our family and the only family we need. The constantly badgered me to drag my girlfriend into the cult and it eventually got to a point where they were telling me she’s a non believer and that I should consider dating someone within the Amway cult.
Everyone would worship our upline leader and if anybody decided to say anything controversial about him to anyone inside the cult, the word would get to the leader and he would have a personal one on one talk with you. I remember one time I was talking privately to this guy at one of my first Amway events (I was just asking him basic questions, trying to figure out what this is about) and my upline approached me after and asked me what we were talking about. And they continued by telling me to be careful what I say to other people and if they find out I am talking bad about Amway or anyone within Amway there will be consequences (I don’t know why this didn’t make me run as far away as I could after this incident, I think the idea of riches and retirement was more important to me).
Also our cult leader would hug people at the meetings and tell them “I love you”. He would call all the men within the cult “brother”. He was manipulative and he used weak people to gain their love and trust. After meetings this bastard would bring everyone outside and show off his brand new car he “paid with cash”. He would literally make people sit inside of it just to experience what “they will have one day if they stick to the plan”.
He would exploit certain peoples childhoods and weakness to bring them crawling to his feet. I swear he would tell people this story about how one time he sat through and entire Amway event with a burst appendix because it was more important to him that he received this information than to go to the hospital. What a joke!
I feel like such an idiot for falling for this disgusting cult. Sometimes I can’t even believe I fell for it. They are using a very effective form of brainwashing amongst these people. Its scary to even recall this type of stuff. It is a true cult and there is absolutely no arguing that. I fully 100% believe with all my heart that this is the wrong path to go down. Amway is not a legitimate business opportunity, it is a shitty recruiting job that ends up with you loosing family, friends, and having people laugh in your face when you try and “drop the message” to them. Very scary stuff. I hope all these brainwashed ambots will realize one day they are wasting their time and money.
This sort of thing happens whenever you join any kind of social group where you are compelled to give up your personal freedom to choose or to decide matters. All groups by their nature are conformist and tyrannical.
ReplyDeleteCults are the very worst example of this kind of social group. They force you to obey certain leaders, they limit your range of choices, they dictate how you may use your time, and they extort monetary payments and other kinds of support from you.
But most horrible of all, they COMPEL YOU TO THINK AND REACT IN CERTAIN APPROVED WAYS. You are simply not allowed to have opinions or ideas that run contrary to what the group and its leaders have. And your speech and behavior are constantly scrutinized by everyone else in the cult to make sure that you are not deviating from the cult's approved patterns.
Amway is one of the oldest (and sickest) business cults. The entire aim of up-line in Amway is to rule over down-line IBOs in every aspect of their existence. Speech, thought, behavior, dress, deportment, purchases, friendships, education, and even where you live and what kind of car you drive -- all these things are rigidly controlled by your up-line, and if you attempt to deviate from prescribed patterns you will be abused and publicly vilified.
Fortunately, most members of Amway drop out quickly when they realize what they have signed on for. Up-line rages violently when they do this, but they then work feverishly to replace the IBOs who have resigned with new idiots.
And this is the real truth about Amway: it has nothing to do with the stupid products. It has everything to do with being a cult that maintains itself through intense brainwashing. That's why the Amway speechmakers always talk about "leadership" and "helping others," while neglecting to tell anyone how to sell Amway products to retail customers.
Anonymous - this is one of the best responses ever to exactly what it's like when you sign up to Amway!
DeleteInside the Amway cult Ambots give up their freedom to make choices for themselves. Down to every little detail. All the while handing fistfuls of money to tithe the Great Amway God.
There are many buzzwords in Amway like leadership and helping others and mentors but it's all lip service. There is no training in Amway when it comes to how to build a profitable business and how to sell products.
Amway losers think insulting and mocking people is the way to attract customers.
Fuck Amway!
It's interesting to observe how Amway distorts language for its own purposes.
ReplyDelete"Leadership" actually means guidance or advice given to persons who are subordinate to you, and who will trust you enough to follow your suggestions. Bosses are expected to show good leadership, as well as athletic coaches, military officers, politicians, and parents.
But the Amway assholes have redefined "Leadership" to mean a mix of the following things:
1) Imposing blind obedience on persons in order to make a profit off them.
2) Lying convincingly to prospects, to get them to sign up for this obedience.
3) Constantly reinforcing their obedience by denigration, double-talk, public insults, and some occasional love-bombing.
4) Brainwashing them endlessly to think that losing money is a good sign, that crappy generic products are actually high-quality items, that listening to rah-rah speeches on CDs is a way to improve your business skills, and that mindless enthusiasm and screaming are more important than intelligence.
None of this is real "leadership." It is simply manipulation and string-pulling. There are no real "leaders" in Amway. There are only con-men and thieves.
Anonymous- very good summation of what Amway is all about!
DeleteThough Ambots will screech how you got it wrong.
All cults have their own lingo and twisted ways of doing stuff. The best we can do is get word out online about Amway buzz words so that others can be warned they are getting prospected by an evil cult.
