The Craigslist Ambot

One night somebody in our upline - or perhaps crossline I was never quite sure where he fit into the equation but he was at every meeting I attended - brought a guest with him to an Amway meeting. A young lady who didn’t look quite right. As is par for the course whenever someone manages to drag a prospect to a meeting all the IBO’s in the room welcomed her with loving arms and showered her with phoney attention and interest. After a few minutes of talking to her you could figure out she wasn’t all there. Something not quite right in her head. Perhaps a high functioning autistic? She could carry on a reasonably decent conversation but after spending a few minutes with her you’d see something wasn’t quite right. Due to her disability she was unable to drive and so the IBO who was prospecting her was driving her to and from the meeting.

She sat down beside me and I asked how she’d met the ambot. She told me she had posted an ad on Craigslist looking for friends and good conversation and he’d responded.

That stunned me because you never know what kind of weirdos you’ll attract doing that. I’m aware that Craigslist has a personal section but I thought it was mostly for people looking to hook up. Well maybe she was trying to do that too I don’t know.

But I get the picture. The ambot who’d brought her to the meeting was trolling Craigslist ads looking for women with no other motive other than to get them to an Amway meeting. Well maybe he was trying to get them into bed too! I think this young lady enjoyed the companionship of a room full of people happy to shower her with fake love. The price to pay? Listening to the bullshit from the Platinum for 3 hours.

Did she ever join up with Amway? Not that I know of. I saw her at 3 meetings I think and oddly enough I saw her at Free Enterprise Days. I was walking through the lobby undoubtedly on my way out of there to find a Starbucks or Burger King for some nourishment and I spotted her wandering around by herself. Fortunately she didn’t spot me and I was able to make a clean getaway! That was the last time I ever saw her. Obviously her potential sponsor had given her a ride to FED, paid for her ticket, and then ditched her once inside the arena. I knew if I stopped and talked to her curiosity would get the better of me and I’d ask about the sleeping arrangements. Some things its just better you don’t know. None of my business anyway.

The real sad thing is the ambot who’d stalked her on Craigslist lost interest in her real fast after he met her and realized she wasn’t fully functioning. By the second or third meeting he’d driven her to he didn’t want the burden of responsibility for her anymore and was checking the room to see if anyone else could give her a ride. Yeah just the type of really nice guy you want in your life. Asshole! But what else do you expect from a self absorbed ambot? The reality was this young lady was just looking for people to hang out with for a few hours and she didn’t have the mental or financial capacity to buy into the Amway scheme. The IBO figured that out fast enough that his plan didn’t work and tried to ditch her but she kept showing interest in going to Amway meetings to be around people. So desperate to spend time with someone, anyone she’ll go to an Amway meeting! Shit!

I don’t know about posting personal ads on Craigslist. The first thing that comes to my mind is the Craigslist Killer. The second thing that now comes to my mind thanks to the young lady’s experience is the possibility of getting prospected by some Amway IBO thinking this is a cool way to pick up recruits.

But where will it end on Craigslist? Perhaps ambots are trolling every category and calling people who’ve put phone numbers on their ad. Can you imagine if your cat didn’t come home and you placed an ad on Craigslist and some ambot phones you to say he spotted your ad and you get all excited thinking he’s found your missing cat only to find out he’s prospecting you to join up with Amway. Or you place an ad looking for a boyfriend with similar interests only to get a response by some ambot pervert. Or people looking for a job and post an ad on Craigslist with their resume and qualifications and someone calls and says they’d like to hire you and set up an interview. You get all excited about landing an interview and go to the meeting which is oddly enough being held at Dunkin’ Donuts only to find its a scam and an Amway IBO wants to show you the board plan.

Craigslist does put up a warning about affiliate scammers who prey on people posting on their classifieds but people can get all the warnings and red flags waved under their nose and they still might not realize they’re being set up by a scammer.

Get a clue you lousy ambots! People put up legitimate ads on Craigslist and they hope for legitimate, helpful responses. They don’t want to be recruited into Amway! You’re just contributing to Amway’s bad image by pulling shit like this.

It just seems creepy to me that Amway IBO’s are stalking people on Craigslist. I bet some kingpin has a CD out there on how to troll for prospects on Craigslist.

  1. Was told by a monavie distributor to prospect people who are dying of cancer or to try and recruit people living in a hospice. These days you cant even go have a donut or coffee without someone bugging you about some mlm scam.

  4. Anna,if you have the time, please contact me directly by e-mail. I would like to send you an electronic copy of my book on cults.

Once you start to look closely at other pernicious cultic groups, you will see that there is essentially no difference between the destructive behaviour of core-Ambots, and the self-righteous comic-book scenario which produces it, and the irrational behaviour and 'negative v. positive' totalitarian controlling-scenario of any other gang of deluded cult adherents.

In effect, core-Ambots have been conditioned to commit psychological, and financial, suicide, but whilst they remain under the reality-inverting influence of their group, they are completely convinced that no one is controlling them and their own financial salvation also depends on saving others. Ambots habitually communicate amongst themselves using their group's thought-stopping ritual jargon, and they find it difficult, if not impossible, to communicate with 'negative' persons outside their group whom they falsely believe to be not only doomed to poverty, but also to be a suppressive threat to their own future redemption in the secure 'Amway' Utopia.

Ambots have usually been taught to draw up a list of everyone whom they have ever known in their lives, and then to contact these people one by one, reciting a precisely-worded '100% positive' recruitment script. The recruitment script generally only works on people who are at a moment of vulnerability in their lives and whose critical and evaluative faculties might not be fully-functioning. Typically of a cultic group, Ambots have been given the illusion that they made free-choices, but they conveniently ignore the fact that their own recruitment script employs the same co-ordinated devious techniques of social and psychological persuasion which initially deceived them.

For obvious reasons, Ambots are always interested in recruiting persons with disabilaties, and/or health problems. My brother (a high-school teacher) was recruited into 'Amway' following a tragic road accident which resulted in about a dozen members of his former rugby club being killed or maimed. Had my brother not been involved in an argument with some club members, he might have been in this accident. Consequently, the tragedy left him deeply-traumatized. The rugby club mostly comprised men who had all attended the same school. Out of the blue, an 'Ambot' (a lawyer) who had also attended this school, began contacting destabilized persons like my brother, wanting to be their friend.

You might be interested to know that certain cults have co-opted academic-apologists who steadfastly deny the existence of the cult/brainwashing phenomenon. Perhaps the most dangerous of these co-opted academics has been Prof. Eileen Barker of the London School of Economics (Dept. of sociology)although she has now retired. Back in the 1990s,'Amway' bought two self-styled 'cult experts' in the UK, Graham Baldwin and Ian Howarth, who then assisted in preventing victims from facing reality and complaining to law enforcement agents, legislators, journalists, etc.

  5. Thanks David, but I don't know how to contact you! If you want to leave a comment with your email but don't want me to approve and publish it I can delete after I read it. Just say the word!

Yup, we had to do that list of everyone we know and had ever met in our lives, whether or not we actually knew how to contact them! The list as long as there are people still on it who haven't said no - likely due to unable to contact - is enough for the upline to give hope to the ambot.

I can't figure out why a lawyer would be involved in Amway anyway, other than getting hired to defend them in one of their lawsuits! That just seems scummy what happened to your brother.

  6. Anna, i dont meet many doctors or professionals in amway. Usually their lifetstyle is better than any diamonds in this cult.

  7. Hey David: I want a copy of your book too! Maybe Anna can post a link or website? Thanks!

  9. Ha Ha Connie! That is too funny. You should post that ad. It'll probably get voted for the best of Craigslist!

But you'd have to keep reposting it. One of those darned ambots will probably spot it and send out a text message to everyone in their line with the link so they can flag it for removal!

Comments are moderated but we publish just about everything. Even brainwashed ambots who show up here to accuse us of not trying hard enough and that we are lazy, quitters, negative, unchristian dreamstealers. Like we haven’t heard that Amspeak abuse from the assholes in our upline!

If your comment didn’t get published it could be one of these reasons:
1. Is it the weekend? We don’t moderate comments on weekends. Maybe not every day during the week either. Patience.
2. Racist/bigoted comments? Take that shit somewhere else.
3. Naming names? Public figures like politicians and actors and people known in Amway are probably OK – the owners, Diamonds with CDs or who speak at functions, people in Amway’s publicity department who write press releases and blogs. Its humiliating for people to admit their association with Amway so respect their privacy if they’re not out there telling everyone about the love of their life.
4. Gossip that serves no purpose. There are other places to dish about what Diamonds are having affairs or guessing why they’re getting divorced. If you absolutely must share that here – don’t name names. I get too many nosy ambots searching for this. Lets not help them find this shit.
5. Posting something creepy anonymously and we can’t track your location because you’re on a mobile device or using hide my ass or some other proxy. I attracted an obsessed fan and one of my blog administrators attracted a cyberstalker. Lets keep it safe for everyone. Anonymous is OK. Creepy anonymous and hiding – go fuck yourselves!
6. Posting something that serves no purpose other than to cause fighting.
7. Posting bullshit Amway propaganda. We might publish that comment to make fun of you. Otherwise take your agenda somewhere else. Not interested.
8. Notice how this blog is written in English? That's our language so keep your comments in English too. If you leave a comment written in another language then we either have to use Google translate to put it into English so everyone can understand what you wrote or we can hit the Delete button. Guess which one is easier for us to do?
9. We suspect you're a troublemaking Amway asshole.
10. Your comment got caught in the spam filter. Gets checked occasionally. We’ll get to you eventually and approve it as long as it really isn’t spam.
