My story of what its like to be married to an Amway cult follower. I expose the lies that our upline told and what happens at Amway meetings and functions. I leave the explanations of why Amway is a poor business opportunity or the tool scam to other bloggers. This blog mainly exists to curse out my former upline, aka the cult leaders, and to let everyone know what kind of idiots I had to put up with. Feel free to join in or live vicariously!

WWDB Amway Family Reunion July 2011
34 comments:
Comments are moderated but we publish just about everything. Even brainwashed ambots who show up here to accuse us of not trying hard enough and that we are lazy, quitters, negative, unchristian dreamstealers. Like we haven’t heard that Amspeak abuse from the assholes in our upline!
If your comment didn’t get published it could be one of these reasons:
1. Is it the weekend? We don’t moderate comments on weekends. Maybe not every day during the week either. Patience.
2. Racist/bigoted comments? Take that shit somewhere else.
3. Naming names? Public figures like politicians and actors and people known in Amway are probably OK – the owners, Diamonds with CDs or who speak at functions, people in Amway’s publicity department who write press releases and blogs. Its humiliating for people to admit their association with Amway so respect their privacy if they’re not out there telling everyone about the love of their life.
4. Gossip that serves no purpose. There are other places to dish about what Diamonds are having affairs or guessing why they’re getting divorced. If you absolutely must share that here – don’t name names. I get too many nosy ambots searching for this. Lets not help them find this shit.
5. Posting something creepy anonymously and we can’t track your location because you’re on a mobile device or using hide my ass or some other proxy. I attracted an obsessed fan and one of my blog administrators attracted a cyberstalker. Lets keep it safe for everyone. Anonymous is OK. Creepy anonymous and hiding – go fuck yourselves!
6. Posting something that serves no purpose other than to cause fighting.
7. Posting bullshit Amway propaganda. We might publish that comment to make fun of you. Otherwise take your agenda somewhere else. Not interested.
8. Notice how this blog is written in English? That's our language so keep your comments in English too. If you leave a comment written in another language then we either have to use Google translate to put it into English so everyone can understand what you wrote or we can hit the Delete button. Guess which one is easier for us to do?
9. We suspect you're a troublemaking Amway asshole.
10. Your comment got caught in the spam filter. Gets checked occasionally. We’ll get to you eventually and approve it as long as it really isn’t spam.
Anna, you guys didnt have any local groups when you where in amway? The family reunion cost less than 100.00 for a ticket,no hotel,or travel. But i heard they closed down some local major events cause the groups been shrinking. There use to be FED & dreamnight events locally but not anymore
ReplyDeleteColin - I saw another post from someone who said Family Reunion cost $450 per couple so I'm pretty sure you're wrong about the less than $100. The only event that was under $100 was Dream Night - $66 except our upline ripped us off and wanted $75 each for their trouble of booking it. Ambot seemed OK with having them rip us off. Tickets to Free Enterprise Days were $125 each and I'm sure the same price for Spring Leadership. No major functions locally and I was surprised only one Family Reunion in Boise. I know if I lived in Miami I wouldn't be too excited about busting my ass figuring out how to get to Idaho!
ReplyDeleteSorry i didnt know the pricing. In my day free enterprise was 75 and dreamnight was 75. So i thought all these dorky events where that price. I cant believe family reunion is 450.00. For some people that's a months rent for bloody sakes.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have remembered the price either if I hadn't recorded it on a spreadsheet to show our losses.
ReplyDeleteYou're right Anna, Dream Night is the under $100 per person event, the only event Colin attended before he made the smart decision not to join the ranks of the Brainwashed Ambot masses. Why Boise? Well I could be mistaken but I think Jack Daughery, one of Puryear's Diamonds who quit WWDB to form his own motivational organization ILD but has now returned to WWDB and a few other very old big pins are from this area, talk about the middle of nowhere but this is where they operate these events with the best success by getting people to do what ever it takes to get there so that they feel guilty for not staying in and actually convince themselves that they have received some fantastic secret to building the business through osmoses.
ReplyDelete***Former WWDB Lemming***
Lemming - I checked out the arena. Seats 5000. Maybe if it wasn't out in the middle of nowhere they'd have built a larger stadium. 5000 seems like a low amount of ambots showing up when Amway brags about how many IBO's they have in the country. Say its a sell out. 5000 seats at $250 each = $1,250,000. I can't find the rental cost of the arena. Might be free and they make their money in parking fees and concession sales. Doesn't even show Amway as an event in July. The only thing happening at that arena in July is a roller girls event! So lets say they're not swamped with events booking and they probably rent it out cheaply if not free. For the sake of argument lets say WWDB takes $250,000 for their fees in making all the arrangements and selling tickets. That leaves a million to be split amongst the speakers. Lets say 10 Diamond couples show up to brag about their riches. Thats $100,000 per couple. Sickening isn't it?
ReplyDeleteAnon, guess i lucked out i didnt have money for the tools. I barely had money for food back then.
ReplyDeleteAnd the Goads would sing the 'Family Reunion' song. No kidding. IBOs would buy the CASSETTE TAPES so they could listen to those songs forever. ewwww............
ReplyDeleteThe first line went something like, "I love Family Reunion."
Doest anyone know who has taken the place of the Goads?
Glee, perhaps?
CT
It is sickening, if only the IBO's would wake up and realize that Amway is only the front for the "motivational" business and that selling tickets to functions, CDS and books are the main source of income for big pins like Ron Puryear. Typically the FED and Family Reunion functions are in the neighborhood of the top Diamond and where they have the most downline, everyone else must spend hours driving or cough up cash for plane tickets and accommodations just to hear the same useless garbage from the stage that you hear over and over again on CDs told by Diamonds who are being paid to speak and profiting from your attendance. A popular speaker at WWDB events used to be Greg Duncan who used to brag that he purchased everything with cash, what a liar. I wonder if Greg will be one of the speakers this year, perhaps he can tell everyone how good it is to be bankrupt and have multiple properties foreclosed on http://mlmblog.net/site/2009/03/amway-wwdb-triple-diamond-greg-duncan-bankrupt.html.
ReplyDeleteThe whole thing is a sham, hopefully someone will read your blog and think twice about wasting their money.
***Former WWDB Lemming***
Colin - and they didn't tell you to charge it on your credit card or take a bank loan?
ReplyDeleteCT - maybe they've got Milli Vanilli?
ReplyDeleteLemming - my whole average on the million dollars was more like how Amway averages the expected monthly income. We don't know how many in the group and what each person's income was. I'm sure out of that million the Puryears probably take around half and the rest is split between the other Diamonds. That's the source of the infighting and leaving to start their own groups. If you're running a scam everyone wants an equal piece of the pie.
ReplyDeleteMy blog doesn't really dissect how Amway is a scam. Its my entertainment to curse out my upline and get my story out to the masses. There are better blogs and web sites that shake down the Amway tool scam. I hope anyone looking for information finds them too.
Anna, actually nobody ever did tell me to take a loan or pressure me. That was the only good thing about my upline diamond. He never pressured anybody into religion or take out loans to pay for anything. Back 20 years ago the PNE collasium was filled around 16,000 seats at 75.00 per for the FEDs. Some of us where questioning where all this money was going.
ReplyDeleteAnna, the worst i saw from my upline diamond was convincing two people who cant afford tickets. To buy extra 8 dreamnight tickets for their family & friends. Nobody showed up so i ended up going there for free. Maybe Im negative from the start and so he never tried to convince me to buy into the system.
ReplyDeleteColin - we never actually were in contact with a Diamond. Only saw them from afar at larger meetings and major functions. It was out upline Platinum mainly who was pressuring everyone to go into debt to please the Amway gods. Ambot bragged that he was going to bring 10 people to Dream Night. Thank god he didn't buy the extra tickets! The only reason he didn't was because the Platinum wanted cash and he bought everyone's tickets. Must have earned him some brownie points looking like he was personally bringing an army of recruits. If Ambot had gone to the WWDB website to purchase them he probably would have bought $1000 worth of tickets onto his credit card. So that was kind of odd about the Platinum. Riding everyone's ass to buy tickets and bring people to Dream Night but wanting everyone to buy tickets from him for cash. That probably killed a lot of sales. When it comes to cash people are probably only going to buy exactly how much they need. Ha ha I was negative right from the start!
ReplyDeleteAnna, probably made him look good. But also the platinum did it to pay as little tax as possible. I never knew what form of payment my friend used to purchase the tickets. But it probably was on credit card. There was a few of us who went for the free dreamnight dinner in ripped jeans n tshirt. Some people started to walk out on the poor guy when the speaches where going.
ReplyDeleteWhat was surprising was the person i knew who baught 8 extra tickets stayed in the business. Funny how badly they are abused and treated ...yet they still stay.
ReplyDeleteColin - I'm sure our Platinum wanted to buy all the tickets because there may have been some contest run by someone upline for Platinums who can sell the most tickets. Or he got a free ticket for a certain amount of sales. Yeah walking out on the speakers is a smart thing to do.
ReplyDeleteIts incredible the abuse and bad treatment IBO's take. Its part of cult techniques. The cult leader convinces the followers that he is a god like creature who must worshipped. The cult followers always want his approval and will do anything to spend time with him. The cult leader will withhold their love to punish their followers. They abuse their followers emotionally and then claim to still love them. Its just the most bizarre thing to watch grown ups take this abuse. Not me. The Platinum can not have control over anyone who does not like him. Anyone who does not like him is dangerous and that is why he must destroy any relationships if the wife is not on board. Being abused is part of belonging to Amway. The head office is in denial over it and won't act on IBO claims of upline abuse.
I was kinda hoping for Barry Manilow.
ReplyDeleteCASSETTE TAPE
Anna;
ReplyDeleteYou've got to keep this post up front and center. Family Reunion is coming up in July and there will be so much to dissect.
CASSETTE TAPE
CT - this post in Google searches in #1 at Amway family reunion 2011 and #2 WWDB family reunion 2011 and in the top 5 with various combinations of those words. The downside is that some of the key words that show are cultish and cult leaders so I don’t get too many current IBO’s clicking on the links - I guess only the ones who click without reading the snippet! But still that has got to piss off Amway and WWDB that my blog is higher on the search engine than their web pages!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your part in trying to warn others of this destructive cult, scam and pyramid (the three words that make an Ambot recoil and hiss like a vampire). And you are right about the searches. They have worked hard to have their own "counter" sites come up when people google Amway with words like "scam" and "cult". Currently I have a friend whose son in college got "prospected" and took the bait and now he's already tried to get my son to a "meeting" with an upline, or whatever they are called. My wife went instead and asked all the pointed questions which he danced around while trying to make her look stupid (she's a sharp cookie, so she met his sarcasm with equally sarcastic requests for more information for the group there to truly be able to see what is involved and costs, etc). As you probably know, the cult is politically to the right of Attila the Hun and sees women in the same light as the Taliban. Only to "support" their man. Otherwise dead weight to get rid of. Although she didn't make a dent on the friend's son, the other kids there got to see the lack of facts behind the excited "promises", so I think they dodged the bullet. Like with your blog, any potential victims that can be spared the brainwashing and heartache is a good thing.
ReplyDelete.1% divorce rate in WWDB IBOs compared to almost 80% outside WWDB
DeleteOh great another lying Ambot shows up here. I heard that same bullshit myself but no Amway liar was ever able to sat where they got theses statistics from and who would keep track of this anyway. Ambots have the same chance of divorce as everyone else in this country. 50%
DeleteHi Anonymous! Thanks for stopping by! There are several bloggers who get the word out there about the Amway experience. I do it a little differently telling about our former upline and the way we were treated. I think a favorite movie of the Amway cultists is The Stepford Wives. Too many of these men seem to be in a time warp where they expect their wives to be their obedient slaves. Hopefully you have done your part about keeping your son out of getting involved in Amway. These cult leaders are very good at what they do to reel in people and keep them interested and pressure them to sign up with Amway. Hopefully you can keep your son clear. If he shows any interest point him to some of these blogs written by former IBOs.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anna. And, yes, we've "educated" our son on what Amway is REALLY about, and all the code words, vague promises and arguments they use to deceive and hook a sucker. Luckily he doesn't meet with that friend often anymore since they went to separate (and far apart) colleges this past year. But we'll make sure he never goes to any meeting "to be polite", because that is why Amway pushes going after friends and family so much. Because they find it harder to say "no".
ReplyDeleteLuckily they aren't allowed to go after small children, because I could picture these sleazebags stooping so low as to tell them "See your mommy's purse over there? Empty her wallet and get these really wonderful tapes that will make you a millionaire. She won't mind you doing that for a great business opportunity to reach your dream. Remember, we are the ones who really love you".
A pox on them all.
Anonymous - every IBO thinks they'll be a millionaire in 2 to 5 years working 10 to 15 hours a week. Then they think they'll retire and the millions will just come rolling in.
ReplyDeleteYour son's friend was told to make a list of everyone he knows. And then start contacting those he thinks might be "hot prospects". That's the only reason your son heard from him even though they live far apart.
I don't know what the minimum age is to be an Amway IBO but there were definitely high school students at our Amway meetings. Disgusting. Got them young enough to believe the lies.
I think it was success magazine which said people who stay in mlm past the 8 year mark. Are usually making six figures a year. My scummy diamond love using that quote.
ReplyDeleteColin - I don't know if Amway would be one of those MLMs! Unknown if that's gross or net. Our Platinum claimed to be making $100,000/year but I doubt it.
ReplyDeleteAnna, that's article probably is some other MLM company. But it does make sense for people making over 100k a year after 8 years in mlm. No reason to stay that long unless you're making some serious money.
ReplyDeleteColin - it makes sense for most people who have their own business to be making at least 100k/year after 8 years and here we get into the grey area of net and gross.
ReplyDeleteThere have been many former IBO's who've stopped in here to comment they were in Amway for long periods of time and weren't making anywhere close to that. IBO's stay in because they're brainwashed into believing that there is nothing else out there for them. They're brainwashed into thinking Amway is the only way people can get rich. They're convinced success is just around the corner and that they're about to go big. Its no different than any other cult. Outsiders can't see why people stay in. That clarity is not available to cult followers.
This post is number 2 on Google searches for people looking for information on the WWDB app. The number one search? A radio station in Philadelphia. And as it should be. The people promoting the WWDB app are just going to have to live with the results.
ReplyDeleteOne more time.
WWDB app.
Anna: Almost snarfed my gum laughing about your Boise, ID comments "not exactly the convention capital of the USA". It's what I read this blog for. LMAO!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked that Connie! Its almost the same thing as calling Las Vegas the potato capital of the USA!
